Factsheets
Half of the energy consumed in Europe is heat. A significant share of that heat is used for industrial processes, namely 60%. At the same time, heating is, by far, the largest source of energy consumption in the EU industrial sector. According to Agora Industry, it represents about 47% of the industrial energy demand. Renewable heating and cooling (RHC) technologies – geothermal, solar thermal, biomass, district heating and cooling and heat pumps – can contribute significantly to emission reduction not only for residential and commercial buildings, but also in various industries. Paper, food, washing or dyeing and various other fields already benefit from RHC technologies for some of their factories.
Given that 37% of Europe’s heat demand is below 200 °C, RHC technologies providing low-medium temperature heat are a perfect fit.
