Chair of HWG : Gerhard Stryi-Hipp – Fraunhofer-ISE (DE)
Vice-chair: Prof. Dr. Birol Kilki, Fellow ASHRAE
Members of the HWG:
Name of the HWG: 100% RE Cities
Proposed duration: From 09/2022 to 08/2025
Objectives / goals:
- Development of a definition of 100% RE Cities (in line with other initiatives, e.g. for Positive Energy Districts (PED), 100% RE Cities includes energy for heating, cooling, electricity and mobility)
- Description of technological solutions (energy systems and components) to achieve 100% RE Cities
- Identification of technology gaps to design and implement 100% RE Cities and development of technology strategy and roadmap to fill these gaps with a specific focus on RE heat generation
- Development of an overview on 100% RE Cities best practice examples
- Evaluation of planning tools to design 100% RE Cities and development of a proposal, to develop missing tools
- Evaluation of barriers and advantages to use RE sources for electricity and for non-electricity heat generation (solar thermal, geothermal, biomass)
- Development of business cases and perspectives to use RE sources for heat generation
- Development of a guideline to design optimized energy systems for 100% RE Cities under specific consideration of RE sources for non-electricity heat generation
Actions / description of methodology
- Sub-groups will be established, e.g. on technologies evaluation, planning tools, guidelines (dependent on the number of participants)
- Meetings are planned 2-3 times a year, discussing the progress
- Status of tools, technologies, etc. will be developed by literature research
- Definitions, tools, guidelines will be developed by scientific partners and reviewed by the entire group
