Year-Round, Fire-Safe, and Sustainable Solar Management Materials

Solutions developed

The SOLAR-MATER project is pioneering the development of advanced solar management materials to address year-round temperature regulation challenges in buildings. By integrating thermochromic microcapsules (TCMs), biomass flame-retardant chain extenders, and solvent-free polymer coatings, the project creates materials that adapt to changing climates while ensuring high fire safety and sustainability. The TCMs enhance solar reflectivity and absorptivity through innovative microencapsulation, while flame-retardant additives improve fire resistance. The use of solvent-free coatings further boosts processability and environmental friendliness. This approach aims to optimize energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions in line with EU sustainability goals.
