The AbSolut project explores integrating absorption technologies into district heating and cooling systems, offering diverse, thermally driven solutions. Unlike conventional compression pumps, they use refrigerants with no global warming potential. Despite being niche solutions in Europe, AbSolut develops innovative concepts for efficient integration into Austrian systems, aiming for economic and ecological improvements like better renewable integration and network efficiency.

Main results

The AbSolut project investigates integrating absorption technologies in Vienna, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, and Styria. Concepts are developed collaboratively with users, planners, and tech providers, enabling district heating operators to evaluate and implement them. Leveraging synergies with other projects, AbSolut develops integration concepts and business models for diverse heat sources like caloric power plants and waste heat, promising significant market potential and duplication in Austria.
