Fifth generation, Low temperature, high EXergY district heating and cooling NETworkS

Solutions developed

FLEXYNETS develops new concept of smart district heating and cooling networks, which reduces energy transportation losses by working at neutral temperature levels. Reversible heat pumps will be used to exchange heat with the DHC network. Therefore, the same network can supply heating and cooling.

Main results

The project developed the following deliverables:
- Large storage systems for DHC networks
- Analysis of network layouts in selected urban contexts
- FLEXYNETS substations: energy sources and sinks with short term local storages
- Integration of substations into DHC networks
- Low and high-level controls for low temperature DHC networks
- Management of interaction with electricity and gas grid
