Digital optimization platform for district heating systems
Solutions developed
Biomass district heating systems enhance sustainable energy and regional value. Intelligent coordination of energy supply, storage, and distribution optimizes efficiency and emissions. Current systems often face inefficiencies and oversizing due to demand-based operation. DOPPLER project implements decentralized optimization through demand response, integrating all components for efficient district heating. End customer integration and CO2 reduction are key goals, with scalability for larger networks.
Main results
Arteria Technologies integrates its district heating simulation platform with MEO Energy's smart home system for demand response programs. The project, DOPPLER, incorporates gamification methods from the Industrial Science Institute to engage end users in load shifting and temperature control. Demonstrations in Austria's Güssing, Mischendorf, Horn, and Rohrbach include digital twins linked to real-time data. Scheiber Solutions provides GIS dashboards, while eKUT and the Industrial Science Institute analyze new business models. Upper Styria Energy Agency addresses legal aspects and policy changes.
