agriculTurE wAste PyrOlysis and Thermocomposting for renewable energy in Sustainable agri-food sector

Solutions developed

TEAPOTS integrates two main valorisation pathways: pyrolysis, coupled with an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) for electricity generation and refrigeration, and a Compost Heat Recovery System (CHRS) for producing hot water while generating compost. These modules are combined into the TEAPOTS Integrated Solution (TIS), which supports refrigeration for food storage and provides sanitary hot water. Biochar and compost are utilised as soil biostimulants, contributing to carbon capture and improved yield. Feedstock blending is applied to optimise energy output and material quality.

Main results

The system’s functionality and environmental performance are evaluated through operational data, LCA, and biomass monitoring via field and satellite inputs. Predictive modelling of biomass availability informs a Data-Driven Decision Support System (DSS) for logistics optimisation. Both tools are integrated into the TEAPOTS Digital Platform, which features a user-friendly interface for managing system operations. A Multi-Actor Approach engages biomass producers to foster adoption and improve environmental outcomes across the agricultural value chain.
