100% renewable heating with existing solutions: Italy RHC-ETIP national roundtable

27 October 2022 Online

The energy and climate crises have shown Europe that a faster development and deployment of renewables is crucial. Heating & cooling represents half of the energy demand in Europe and direct renewable heat solutions have a great potential to ensure a faster decarbonisation of the sector if supported properly through political measures. In this context, Solar Heat Europe is organising a national roundtable in Italy, a country affected by the energy crisis due to its dependency on imported gas, addressing the hot topic of energy security, heat decarbonisation and the use of decentralised heating solutions that are already available today.

The event will tackle the opportunities and challenges of the research & development, as well as deployment efforts for renewable heating and cooling technologies applied at large scale in Italy. The event aims to bring together stakeholders from the energy sector and improve collaboration for applied research and pilots of large-scale direct renewable heat systems for district heating and industry. Furthermore, the roundtable aims to showcase successful examples of such systems and the role of thermal energy communities for an accelerated deployment of renewable heating and cooling solutions meant to build a decarbonised and independent heating sector in Italy. The event will be moderated by Riccardo Battisti, Ambiente Italia.

The roundtable is part of a series of events supported by the European Commission under the umbrella of the Renewable Heating and Cooling European Technology Innovation Platform (RHC-ETIP).
