Our Horizontal Working Groups bring together interested experts from different technology panels to work on common horizontal topics, defined on the basis of main challenges to be addressed by the RHC-sector.
Thermal demand and supply as flexible elements of future sustainable energy systems
<p>For an effective implementation of highly flexible, sustainable and renewable driven DH systems a combination of research and demonstration was chosen to implement a broad share of flexibility measures with an increased share of renewables. The research needs addressed based on several demonstrators, which provide the background for developing, implementing and optimising both, innovative system as well as technical solutions. The expected results will lead to more efficient and effective flexibility measures due to close cooperation between DH operators, technology and know-how providers as well as research institutions during the whole innovation and implementation process. The outcomes and experiences from implementation and operation will be used to derive best-practice solutions, develop promising concepts and pathways and show quantitatively technical, economic and ecological benefits and impacts for the DH sector.</p>
Renewables for clean energy buildings in a future power system
RES4BUILD will decarbonise the energy consumption in buildings by developing integrated renewable energy-based solutions that are tailored to the needs and requirements of users and installers. The consortium’s multidisciplinary team of experts will: - Improve the performance and reduce the cost of the most innovative components of the RES4BUILD solutions. - Develop tools for simulation, sizing and control, making optimal use of integrated energy systems and the flexibility of consumption, while respecting the wishes of end-users. - Engage all relevant stakeholders in an interactive process to co-design integrated energy systems that suit current needs and future expectations. - Test and validate various RES4BUILD solutions in different climates. - Pave the way for bringing the developed solutions to the market using rigorous life cycle assessments to measure their real impact, ensuring wide adoption.
Deployment of novel GEOthermal systems, technologies and tools for energy efficient building retroFITting
GEOFIT is an integrated industrially driven action aimed at deployment of cost effective enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) on energy efficient building retrofitting. This entails the development technical development of innovative EGS and its components, namely, non-standard heat exchanger configurations, a novel hybrid heat pump and electrically driven compression heat pump systems and suite of heating and cooling components to be integrated with the novel GSHP concepts, all specially designed to applied in energy efficient retrofitting projects.
