European Technology and Innovation Platform



The European Technology and Innovation Platforms on Renewable Heating & Cooling (RHC-ETIP), Deep Geothermal (DG ETIP) and the DHC+ Technology Platform successfully organised a brokerage event focused on the upcoming Horizon 2020 Energy Work programme 2018-2020 on the 16 November 2017 in Brussels.

Over 100 participants attended the event, which fostered cross-sectorial cooperation between the different technologies under the scope of the platforms. The collaboration across different sectors was highlighted several times by the European Commission as one of the main priorities of the next Energy Work Programme.

A Plenary Session took place in the morning with representatives from the European Commission and Executive Agencies.

In the afternoon the participants attended parallel sessions according to their preferences.

  • Piero De Bonis, Directorate-General for Research & Innovation (DG RTD
  • Piero holds a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Milano. He previously worked at the Italian Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Environment and for the Italian oil company. He joined the European Commission in 2010 and since then he has been Policy Officer for concentrating solar power (CSP) at the Directorate-General for Research & Innovation. Since 2013 he has been also Policy Officer for Solar Heating and Cooling.

  • Filippo Gagliardi (DG RTD)
  • Filippo Gagliardi joined the European Commission as Policy Officer in December 2013.Filippo worked in DG CLIMA up to July 2017, where he focused on the implementation of the New Entrants Reserve 300 (NER300) programme, providing funding for innovative solutions in the area of renewable energy and carbon capture storage. He also managed the Private Finance for Energy Efficiency scheme (PF4EE), a financial instrument delivering loans for energy efficiency investments.In August 2017 he joined DG RTD, where he focuses on the geothermal energy sector and he deals with relevant EU policies and funding for R&D activities.

  • Margot Pinault Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER)
  • Background:Masters in Economics in Poland (Wroclaw University of Economics) and Masters in European and International Business Law in France (University of Orleans).7 years' experience in the private sector in France- Key Accounts Manager in charge of industrial clients in the field of energy management systems for buildings, smart home systems, automation, heating and cooling regulation and control.5 years' experience at the European Commission.

  • José Riesgo (DG RTD-Energy-efficient Buildings)
  • Before starting in the European Commission , José Riesgo was manager in a Chemical company (ICI) responsible of the production area (detergents) and afterwards, manager of a quality control service in the Aeronautic area ( Hexcel US company).In the EC, he has taken various responsibilities as Technical officer first (in the Nuclear area) and then Manager of Programmes/ Projects in various fields: Steel sector, Non- ferrous, Transport, Renewables energies (Activities related to Heating/ cooling applications) and since Jan 2014 responsible for Energy efficient buildings in DG RTD ( under the cPPP- EeB / contractual Public Private Partnership on Energy efficient Buildings).

  • Pierre Roubaud, Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(EASME, SME Instrument)
  • Pierre Roubaud is working in the Executive Agency for SMEs. He is in charge of business innovation coaching for the EIC pilot and  will be leading the implementation of the Fast Track to Innovation Programme as from 2018.  Pierre had worked 5 years as a Project Officer for the European Commission in the field of transnational technology transfer before being transferred to Executive Agencies. He worked as a Deputy Head of Finance in the Innovation & Networks Executive Agency before joining the SME Instrument team.  He is a commercial engineer from UCL, Belgium.

  • Thomas Schleker, DG RTD
  • Thomas Schleker, PhD works as policy officer at the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation in the fields of bioenergy, renewable fuels and hydropower, where he contributes to the development and implementation of relevant R&I policies, programmes, and/or actions in Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Before joining the European Commission Thomas studied biology as well as business management followed by an academic career in molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics and a position as Cluster Manager at a regional business cluster of Renewable Raw Materials.
  • Carmine Marzano, DG RTD-Sustainable Process Industry (SPIRE)
  • Carmine Marzano is Italian; he holds a Master degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Milan. He joined the Unit D2 "Advanced manufacturing systems and biotechnologies" in October 2011 as Research Programme Officer for bio-related production and processing systems. In this role he supports the implementation of the NMBP programme, including the management of the SPIRE cPPP.
    Previously, he has worked for several years in industry and academia, starting his career in General Electric (Healthcare division) in Italy. He then moved to London (UK) in 2007, where he worked as Radiochemistry Scientist at GlaxoSmithKline and later as Lead Radiochemist at King´s College London.
